There are many good reasons to adopt animal shelter pets. Abandoned pets are plentiful and in need of a good home. The majority of them are not lucky enough to find a home and are euthanized.
When you adopt animal shelter pets you are saving their lives. Almost 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized in the United States each year. There is not enough room in shelters to handle all of the creatures that are taken there. Unfortunately, not many people want to adopt from shelters. If more people thought of adopting a rescue pet, the number of them euthanized would drastically decline.
If people would adopt animal shelter pets, they would not be supporting those terrible puppy mills. Those dog-breeding facilities to not care about the welfare of the animals that they breed. They only care about the money they will receive. The condition in these mills is inhumane, especially for the parents of the animals sold. There is no medical care or human companionship for these unfortunate furry friends.
It costs less to adopt animal shelter pets. Some breeds can be expensive. Most people do not realize that if they wait long enough, almost every breed will show up at local animal shelters. You can put your name on a waiting list and they will inform you when your favorite breed shows up. These animals will likely be spayed, neutered and vaccinated saving you a ton of money.
Many local animal shelters will screen pets for behaviors and temperaments. The information will be shared with future owners so that a good match can be made. These abandoned creatures will receive medical care and will be fed and treated kindly. Most of these animals are given up because of divorce, a move, living quarters, lack of time or the loss of a job. Many good little companions are waiting for a new home.
When you adopt animal shelter pets, you will be proud of yourself. It is a wonderful feeling to know that you rescued a new friend. That friend will be grateful and repay you with years of unconditional love. Studies have shown that owning a pet helps a person emotionally and psychologically. It helps a person not to be lonely and to feel protected and cared for.
I just love the animal shelter for getting pets. Plus they often allow time for families and pets to get to know each other.. so you can be sure you get the right animal so everyone is happy.
If I could I would adopt more pets from the animal shelter. These are heartfelt reasons. Thank you.
