Rather than having both a cell phone and a land line, just use a cell phone. The reception may not be as good as a land line telephone, a cell phone will provide the benefit of mobility. This will get rid of the automatic fee you have to pay each month for a land line. Also, find out how much minutes you use on average for your cell phone and choose the best plan rather than an expensive one.
Try using a cheap VoIP (like Vonage) to cut down on costs. These services use the internet to make phone calls and can effectively replace a land line.
If you need both internet service (or already have one), you could get phone and internet service from a provider that's willing to provide an overall discount if you purchase both at the same time.
Rather than making phone calls all the time, try using emails more often. Then you can either get rid of the land line or reduce your hours on a cell phone.
Finally, consider getting a MagicJack. Like VoIP, it also uses the internet to make calls. It's a fantastic service and allows you to potentially make free international calls as well, all for a very low price (e.g., about $20 per year).
Thanks for the tips and congrats on a featured list. H5
Excellent advice. Congrats on the front page and I hope you check in to see that you are here.
Returning with a congratulations on the front page spot and a h5.
Great ideas! I have been doing #3, but might have been wanting to try #5. Now that the kids are off in college, I am amazed at how little we use the land-line.
I have been resistent to leave Ma Bell -- habit, mostly. You provide compelling reasons and options!
Thank you for the money saving list to help with phone bills.
