Old Faithful Geyser is the the most famous geyser in the world and is located in Yellowstone National Park.
Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park is not really predictable anymore. The interval between eruptions varies from day to day and year to year. So does the time the eruption can last and how high it shoots up in the air.
Old Faithful Geyser has an average interval between eruptions of about 90 minutes. Ever since March of 2009, an eruption lasts about 1.5 to 5 minutes. It is believed by some that it erupts every hour on the hour, but that is a myth.
There are some that think that Old Faithful Geyser in Yellowstone National Park has eruptions that are not as high as they once were. In fact, Old Faithful can have a height that can range form 106 feet to over 180 feet. The average is 130 feet high.
Water is expelled from the Old Faithful Geyser at an enormous rate. Approximately 3,700 to 8,400 gallons of water are expelled during an eruption of the geyser. It all depends on the length of the eruption.
Water temperatures are extremely high before an eruption of Old Faithful Geyser. The water temperature at the vent is 204 degrees F., or 95.6 degrees C. Another myth going around is that the Yellowstone National Park rangers can control the eruptions. Of course, that is impossible.
My father always talked about this phenomenon and how beautiful nature is - and as a moral lesson for us as children he always said, 'be as faithful as old faithful'. Thanks
It's been many years since I've been to Yellowstone...and of course, this is a must see when you are there. H5
