Atlanta is a city full of history and was host to the 1996 Summer Olympics. There is a lot to do in this wonderful city; I've been a few times and had a tough time limiting the list to five!
Coca Cola is headquartered in Atlanta and it just makes sense that there would be an attraction for the world's most famous soft drink. The average visit is about two hours and features over 1,200 exhibits from around the world. Tickets are available for advance purchase online but tickets are for entry during a specific hour-so either plan to be there when your tickets are good for entry or take your chances with buying as a walk up customer. $12 for kids and $16 for adults.
This is one of the biggest aquariums in the world with over 10 million gallons-including one tank that comes in at 6.3 million gallons. Adults are $35 although prices change and may be more expensive on the weekend. 10:00 am to 6:00pm are the typical hours. Among the reviews I read, one pointer is for people to go at 10:00 am on a weekday. The land was donated by Coca Cola and it is located in the same center as World of Coca Cola.
No trip to Atlanta is complete without a trip to The Varsity. It is the world's largest drive in (think restaurant and car hops). It can accommodate 600 cars and inside seating for 800 persons. I've been there and recommend a chili dog. On days when Georgia Tech plays football, they expect 30,000 patrons. It has been open since 1928.
You might not know that Atlanta is home to CNN (The News Network). You can tour their studios for $15 and it is a little cheaper for children. The tour runs about an hour and I think you can probably expect to see news people behind the desk-I did when I went. After all, news is always happening and they are always on the air.
Six Flags over Georgia is an amusement park that offers 35 rides for various ages-there is something for the kids and something for the thrill seeker as well. Tickets currently run $55, but discounts might be available ( I was able to find two different discounts for my brother last weekend for Six Flags in California). You'll have to check hours as Six Flags over Georgia is typically only open on the weekends once the middle of August arrives.
You should also check into the Atlanta City Pass, which offers discounts on several destinations. You get to choose which destinations but might only be cost effective if you are going to actually take advantage of several. I know for sure that The World of Coca Cola, The Georgia Aquarium, and CNN Studios are among the destinations discounted.
Atlanta has a lot to offer and your list is good coverage.
