Earth is without a doubt is the greatest wonder in the solar system. It is a beautiful planet with it's perfect mix of desert, water, snow and land to sustain life, but there are other wonders in space that are being re-examined and re-explained as scientist learn more and more about them. Here are the top five wonders of space.
The red spot is actually an ancient storm that has been spinning for 400 years on Juniper. The winds are faster than any of earths hurricanes. It is located in Junipers' Southern Hemisphere and it moves counter clockwise. Scientists believe the red color of the storm may be coming from debris circling. Not too long ago a secondary storm developed that began as several small whites spots. They eventually moved together to become a large white spot, and shortly after that it turned red.
Scientist has recently discovered that the rings of Saturn are not flat, but are actual bumpy. The bumps are so large that they are similar to mountains on earth reaching heights one mile high. The A ring has a vertical peak that is 2 miles high.
Scientists believe now that the debris floating in the Asteroid Belt was not from a planet that blew up, as a large planet would not be able to develop in that area. Contrary to popular belief, if you were to travel through the Asteroid Belt who would find that the asteroids are not close together, as it has been shown in movies. The separation of the asteroids is 1 million miles apart, so the chance of colliding into one is slim. There is one asteroid that is larger than all the rest called Ceres that has been classified as a dwarf plantet because it was big enough to become a rounded shape.
The largest volcano in the solar system is on the planet Mars. This very low volcano is 350 miles across and is 13 miles high. Many layers of lava helped to create Olympus Mons. The lava layers didn't collapse like they would on earth because of Mars' gravity and because Mars did not have tectonic plate movement in that area, while the volcano was active. Although it is dormant now, no one knows if it will erupt again.
The sun has a boiling motion as heat rises up from the sun, cools and falls back down. The sun is a noisy, hot and violent place with its storms that cause thunderous sounds. The sun has a magnetic field but every now and then blasts of plasma can explode past the field and shoot out into space. Sometimes the plasma can strike the earth and create Northern Light displays. In 2013, the sun will be at solar maximum position again and solar storms could knock out communication, temporarily.
Awesome list! H5!
Well done with lots of information.Thank you.
