Introduction:Raspy voice male singers are not everyone's first choice, but I just love them. Maybe it's the cool and sexy sound they make, but whatever it is, I dig these raspy guy's voices!
Ray LaMontagne has recently become very popular and gaining notoriety. He reminds me somewhat of a raspier version of Neil Young, with with his guitar and harmonica. Ray is his own man and a prodigy of this era that won't be forgotten. My favorites are Crazy, Trouble, To Love Somebody, Shelter, How Come and I Won't Be Around.
Warren Haynes has that gravel voice and can tear it up with his singing. He is a rock and blues guitar player who sings awesome. He was a longtime member of The Allman Brothers and now is a songwriter and vocalist in Gov't Mule. My favorite song is, I'll Be The One. This song goes deep as a love song of all time.
A former member of The Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, Michael McDonald just has it going on to this day with his keys and pipes. He does some kickin versions of Motown songs like Ain't No Mountain High Enough and I Heard it Through the Grapevine. Anything he sings turns to gold.
Mac Powell is the lead singer for the Grammy award-winning Christian rock band, Third Day. Mac has the voice of an angel with his raspy and passionate singing for God. Some of my favorites are God of Wonders, Your Love Oh Lord, Cry Out to Jesus and Lift up Your Face.
I love every song by this Native American singer. Russ Taff is a Christian gospel singer who can be heard often at the Gaither Homecoming events. His prodigy voice cannot be imitated and can sooth my soul like none other. Favorite songs: Ain't No Grave, Farther On, A Father's Eye, We Will Stand, Praise the Lord and I Cry.
This list, and Michael McDonald makes me think of one of my favorite songs, "I Keep Forgetting" .. that was the jam ..
I've apparently been in La La Land. I'll have to look these dudes up.
I have not heard of many of these either. Thanks for the list.
I'm going to have to look up all but Michael McDonald to keep up!
Interesting list. Many singers I never heard of but I am also of a fan of a raspy voice.
I only know two of them so I am going to look for the other ones. It's so ironic that just by chance I was reading up on David Ruffin, the fallen leader of the Tempts and how he was described as having a raspy voice. These are sexy singing voices to me. Again a flaw that works in one's favor when done right. H5
