I've been to some states on the East Coast, haven't been this far North yet-so this list is all research. Enjoy...and add in the comments so others can benefit from you experience!
I normally wouldn't put a restaurant as a destination but I've made an exception in this case. Perhaps, I shouldn't have looked at pictures of their pizza before breakfast! This one is located in New Haven and the buzz is that there is always a line. Reasonable prices and they have locations other than New Haven as well.
Located in Ledyard, this is one of the world's largest casinos. If the chance at a big payoff is alluring to you, this might be a place worth visiting. Even for those who don't gamble, this destination has something for everyone. Dining, shops, a spa, golf, and entertainment are all available here.
This museum and home of Harriet Beecher Stowe in Hartford shows up on several lists for Connecticut. You may recall the name but not be familiar enough to know who she was. In 1852 she wrote "Uncle Tom's Cabin" which helped change the perception of slavery, swayed public opinion, and probably even helped divide the North and the South even more. Learn more if you go here and their mission is to inspire other to change their world.
This one is also located in Hartford and shows up on just as many Connecticut lists. Twain lived here from 1874 to 1891 and wrote his most important works while living here. Tours of the house are guided and often sell out (for adults $16.cheaper for kids and seniors). The calendar is full of special events throughout the year.
The last item on the list isn't a specific spot; it's more like a village with lots to offer! Old ships to explore, an aquarium, the kids can make candles, and plenty of restaurants. One could certainly make a day out of this one but do a little more research because separate admissions to the many activities available here could add up.
I've tried to include a little fun for the kids, a little history, and even managed to squeeze some food on the list! Enjoy!
Mystic Seaport is one of my favorite places to spend a weekend. It's been quite a few years since we have gone. I want to try and take the kids this summer.
Super list!
Great list and if Connecticut has as good a pizza as N.Y. does it is no wonder there is a line outside waiting for food.
