The expression to "chime in" means something different to Gen Xers, Nexters and everyone else. Chiming in to oldsters means adding an irrelevant comment to any topic, rather than making a significant or important contribution. Next time you ask a senior to "chime in" expect an off-putting look.
Just what is old school? Things that formerly were traditional or time honored are now called old school. The term or the abbreviation "OS" represents something out of date, irrelevant or not worth the time. Some old school events also include birthdays, anniversaries, Mother's Day and of course, the most OS events of all time Passover and Christmas. If we're tossing things that are old school, why not eliminate all holidays and traditions. New is not always best.
Several generations ago the response to "Hey!" was "Hay is for horses." "Hey!" is an expression to be used when you see a friend at the gym or a call to kids out on the playground, not as a salutation on a business letter or a greeting for people in a formal situation.
The expression of "aging yourself" or "dating yourself" means to make a comment in reference to something that only an older person would remember. The common post-Boomer comment of "that ages me" in response to something another says means you think the comment reveals your age as an oldster. That's hardly something you want to say to a complete stranger. If you don't know the reference, simply say, "I don't know the reference." Another comment, "before my time," is also insulting to the other person. Learn history, read some books, to gain a cultural background.
The peace symbol or flashing two finger in a "V" form mean you hope or work for world peace. It's not something to put on your pillowcase or a giant yellow furry pillow, unless you know the meaning and do something to promote peace. Using the peace symbol in this way is the best example of "anti-peace." You're consuming products that fund big businesses that actually promote war. Older Boomers who actually worked to end the Vietnam War find this type of consumerism insulting. Peace, out.
