The topping on the hot dog just might be sweet pickle relish. The dog is bland without the favorite toppings and the sweet pickle relish is quite often picked over all the other toppings at picnics. Put the room temperature sweet pickle relish on a warm hot dog or place on the bun.
There are several kinds of spicy brown mustard to choose from. There is the really hot kind with lots of horseradish in it and the peppery spicy brown mustard. You also have a choice of the sweet spicy brown mustard. Each can be put on with a knife or if in a squeeze container, put a line right on the hot dog.
Choose your beans to put on the top of your hot dog. Select the oven baked beans or the beans with bacon to adorn your grilled hot dog.Make your beans with hot chili seasoning to put the right flavor on you dog. Canned Campbell's pork and beans are acceptable when no one made homemade beans for the dogs.
Any kind of cheese is just right according to your own personal taste. Select swiss, mild cheddar or sharp cheddar. Put strips of cheese all over the top of a piping hot, right off the grill hot dog and let it melt on the dog.You can slice the hot dog and put the cheese right in that slice so it melts there.
Fresh made or store bought sauerkraut is always a favorite on top of hot dogs. Cook the sauerkraut until it is nice and hot and strewn it all over the grilled hot dog just after you put the dog in the bun. The hot dogs can be warmed in the sauerkraut too.
I like pretty much anything other than relish. I worked in a pickle factory and know what goes into relish and will never eat it.
I'm sure glad you didn't put ketchup on this list! As for me, I like mustard and onions...kraut once in awhile is good too :) H5
All supper toppings, but the first one is my favorite. My mom always gives me homemade pickle relish. Want me to send you a jar. H5
