Anniversary of Jackie Robinson Breaking Baseball Color Line

On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson became the first African American to play major league baseball. He debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers against the Boston Braves and went 0-for-3 in the game, but scored the deciding run in the Dodgers 5-3 win. He was later voted 1947's Rookie of the Year.

Anniversary of First Mcdonalds Opening

Fifty-six years ago, on April 15, 1955, McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, opened his first franchise in Des Plaines, Illinois. Kroc's inspiration was a hamburger joint in San Bernardino, California, run by the McDonald brothers. On opening day a hamburger was 15 cents. The Big Mac was introduced in 1968 for 49 cents and the Quarter Pounder in 1971 for 53 cents. By the 21st century, there were more than 31,000 McDonald's in 119 countries.

Anniversary of the Sinking of the Titanic

Ninety-nine years ago, the "unsinkable" luxury liner Titanic, on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, to New York, struck an iceberg and sank at 2:27 a.m. on April 15, 1912. Of the 2,224 persons aboard, more than 1,500 were lost. About 700 people were rescued from the icy waters off Newfoundland by nearby ship Carpathia, which reached the scene about two hours after the Titanic went down.

Interesting list. I grew up in Virginia Beach, and remember as a little girl when we got our first MacDonald's ... there was another small franchise called Carroll's that was there at the same time, and I remember that I liked Carroll's hamburgers better. Carroll's, of course is no doubt long gone, but MacDonald's will apparently live on forever!
