I spent months searching for the right DSLR camera for my needs. In the end, I bought a Pentax digital SLR - the Pentax K10D. I'm so happy that I did. I can't say enough nice things about this camera, but this is a top five list, so I'll have to limit myself.
I love photography. I would happily spend the rest of my life taking children's portraits and capturing them kicking the winning ball through the goal posts. However, without in camera stabilization, I'd have to use a tripod literally all the time because I don't have the steadiest hands. Tripods mean missed shots when you are dealing with active kids. To me, in camera stabilization, which Pentax calls a shake reduction system, is absolutely essential.
I don't want my photo gear to be cowering indoors when my kids are out playing in the snow. Pentax cameras can join the fun because they have weather resistant and cold resistant bodies.
If you are serious about photography, you know that your camera body will be one of your cheaper investments. Good lenses are where most of your money goes. So, being able to use those great glass lenses from your film Pentax camera on your new DSLR? Awesome! My old f/1:2 50 mm lens is now shooting great portrait photos on my new K10D body.
My new camera has all the features of one of the much more expensive big name professional camera bodies at a fraction of the cost.
I bought the basic black semi-pro K10D, but Pentax also offers the entry level digital SLR K-x, which comes in a rainbow of colors. Love pink? There's a camera for that! The K-r is a semi-pro body that comes in red or white as well as basic black.
For me, Pentax was the best choice. I can use my old lenses, don't have to pay for shake reduction with every single lens I buy since it is already in my camera and I didn't have to break the bank to buy it. I hope you, too, discover the joy of going Pentax!
My husband has an underwater pentax. loves it!
Sounds great, thanks for the info I never knew!
I recently lost my camera, this one sounds awesome, I'm going to check it out. Thanks
