In this case the movie extras could have been killed, injured or just severely mistreated. They could also just have felt abused.
There was one old movie I saw word of before where there were extras drowned on it. I am not sure of the name now and can't find it for this but I thought it is important. It then alerted them to the fact that something would have to be done about it.It may have been the movie Noah's Ark listed in my links here.
Some extras were injured during the "plunge." People who have seen the movie Titanic probably remember the plunge scene when the ship was going down. You can imagine that something might happen on that.
There were a lot of complaints from film extras about this movie. Because they were filming it about a volcano they were putting or throwing some kind of fake volcanic stuff on the film extras. It was not fun I heard. The calling service lady said that many people asked to be taken off it that were extras.
Many extras complained about this movie. I saw the messages on one of the forums about extra work. They were having stuff thrown at them. Besides that they were placed on a platform where it could be dangerous. SAG the entertainment agency came in to watch what the crew were doing to protect them. They also watch out for the film extras.
The Transformers 3 movie was being filmed in Chicago while I was there recently. One extra who was supposed to have been driving her car in it got hurt and it was in the newspaper. She was hurt from a flying object and in a coma.
I am linking to Dying to be in the Movies on Guttersnipe.com. It lists some extra fatalities along with other actors, stunt people and a director. It is very informative if you are an extra in film or thinking of becoming one. It says there were many other deaths. So it is not just us complaining. It may seem easy but it is not. Even the bright light from the space shuttle that could hurt your eyes gets to be very bad sometimes.
What a dangerous job to be an extra. Thank you for this educational list.h5
Sounds like a bunch of out of work extra actors complaining about the job; although it is not a good thing that some were truly hurt.
