Right now, many states are considering legalizing Marijuana for medical purposes. Some states are even considering legalizing the possession of a small amount of Marijuana. Although many people still consider Marijuana to be a drug, more and more people are realizing the benefits the cannabis plant has.
Marijuana has been proven to have many medical benefits. It can alleviate pain that prescription narcotics can not, including pain associated with various muscular diseases, stomach/intestinal diseases, A.I.D.S., and glaucoma. It can also help reduce debilitating side effects of chemo-therapy.
Yes, you read that right. The California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute conducted a study and found that Marijuana can stop cancer cells from multiplying and spreading. With cancer becoming such a common prominant disease, this could be a huge asset to everyone, especially when it comes to life and death.
Marijuana could be used as a bio-fuel, reducing carbon emissions and America's need for oil. The oil from hemp can also be used to fuel diesel engines and modified gas engines.
Years ago, Marijuana was a huge cash crop. Farmers were ordered to grow fields of Marijuana, and the hemp was used to make cloth and paper. This could be a huge asset to our country while also saving a lot of trees in the process.
In places where Marijuana is legal, the economy is booming and the crime rate is very low. A Harvard professor estimated that the legalization of Marijuana could bring more than $2.4 million into our country on a yearly basis. Putting a tax on Marijuana could add millions more to that amount.
Alcohol is legal, but does it have any benefits? No. This is only a small list of benefits we could reap from legalizing Marijuana. Don't believe the stereotypes that you hear about this plant; find out the facts before making a judgment.
This is a fantastic list, and very imformative for people who don't know a lot about marijuana. I agree with you, and I think marijuana should be legalized and used medicinally, recreationally, and for clothing, biofuel, and other such projects. The benefits far outweigh the negative aspects, and as you mentioned, it is a far better "drug" than alcohol. I would add that it is not only better than alcohol, but also nicotine (cigarettes), and even caffeine.(All of which can be legally bought and consumed) Great list.
