Peaches ripen quickly by placing them in a box covered with newspaper. Gases are sealed in. Skins come off smoothly if peach is peeled with a potato peeler. Remember when peaches had all the peach fuzz? Well, today peaches are de-fuzzed by a mechanical brushing process before shipment.
Ripen pears quickly by placing them in a brown paper bag along with a ripe apple. Place in a cool, shady spot and make certain a few holes are punched into the bag. The ripe apple will give off ethylene gas which will stimulate the other fruit to ripen.
They have smooth, shiny, bright, orange skin, which is removed before eating or they will be sour. High in vitamins A, C, and potassium. May be ripened overnight by wrapping them in tin foil and placing into the freezer. Must be thawed at room temperature and eaten the next day.
