Introduction:Fibromyalgia causes chronic pain. There are several theories about why it happens. Research has discovered some possibilities, but many things about this disorder remain a mystery. Fibromyalgia is considered to be related to rheumatic diseases because of chronic pain in tendons, muscles and connective tissues. Other characteristics are fatigue, depression, anxiety, abdominal pain, insomnia and numbness and tingling.
Here are some of the possible reasons 2 to 4 percent of the population suffer from this condition.
Research has shown that one of the fibromyalgia causes could be from genes. It seems to run in families because it is more common in people with relatives that have the disorder. Some think that it may be passed down from mother to daughter.
It is more likely to strike women with a ratio of 9 to 1 to men.
Another possibility for fibromyalgia causes is injury, especially to the spine. Many report having symptoms after an accident, serious illness or traumatic event like the death of a loved one. Those with post traumatic stress syndrome often develop fibromyalgia. High levels of emotional stress can cause changes in the immune system and nervous system.
Brain chemistry disturbances could be another of the fibromyalgia causes. Lower levels of serotonin in the brain seem to increase sensitivity to pain and are common in those with this disease. Low serotonin levels are associated with depression and insomnia, which are two major complaints of fibromyalgia-patients. Studies show that women have seven times lower serotonin than men. Fibromyalgia-patients also have more Substance P (a peptide that regulates pain) in their cerebrospinal fluid.
Researchers believe that fibromyalgia causes are due to infection. A virus, bacteria or fungus can have a lasting effect on the immune system. Sufferers report never feeling the same after experiencing the Epstein-Barr virus, influenza, hepatitis B and C, Candida albicans and Lyme disease.
The last of the fibromyalgia causes could be allergies. There is a theory that allergies trigger the problem because immune system mechanisms are challenged by them. Fibromyalgia symptoms that could be allergy related are cold intolerance, irritable bowel, bladder disturbances, sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome and dry mouth and eyes.
Nice list of fibromyalgia causes.
Thank you for your astute list of causes of Fibromyalgia. 30 years ago this condition was widely unknown. I tend to agree with the over use of antibiotics since we do a lot of quick fixes with ATBX.h5
