Introduction:I love to sit around a camp fire and cook a hot dog until it's roasted to a true campfire hot dog. But, conventional hot dogs are listed as one of the most unhealthy foods to eat, so I have opted to eat hot dogs that are much safer and healthier.
Let's Be Frank hot dogs are some tasty dogs made from 100 per cent grass-fed premium beef. They come from cows that free range in California pastures which have never been given steroids, antibiotics or growth hormones. The casings are made out of lamb, making them a preferred hot dog for non-pork eaters.
Niman Ranch hot dogs are made from humanely raised, free-range pigs that are also fed a healthy vegetarian diet. There are no hormones, antibiotics or steroids in the meat and they are also gluten-free.
Applegate hot dogs come in a variety of pork, beef and turkey. Their livestock has access to fresh air and a healthy vegetarian diet without steroids or antibiotics. The hot dogs are cured with celery juice and sea salt rather than nitrites. They are gluten and casein free and are certified organic.
Organic Prairie uncured beef hot dogs are nitrite free and certified organic. Made from pasture-raised beef with sea salt, lactic acid starter, organic garlic and onion powder and organic spices.
Hebrew National Kosher beef hot dogs are made from the best cuts of the cow and contain no by-products, artificial fillers, colors or flavors. These hot dogs are way less toxic with paprika, spices and garlic powder. Hebrew National hot dogs are healthier than traditional hot dogs but they do contain some nitrites and soy.
I did not even know there were nitrite free hotdogs ... I'll look for these brands. Thanks for sharing!!! High 5!
Thank you for doing this list of healthy hot dogs so I can benefit from your wisdom. Nitrates are not ingredients I want to eat.
I love the Hebrew National dogs myself. They have a great taste and far less of the stuff I don't like. highfive for a great list.
Yeah, I stick with the Hebrew National brand after hearing about some of the other (ulp) ingredients going into some hot dogs. Not familiar with the others on your list, tho.
Nice list of hot dogs. It has been such a long time since I have had a hot dog over the campfire. I will have to have one again. They always taste better that way.
