High school is a rough time: zits, dating, bullies, breaking out of your shell, and all around awkwardness. This pivotal life experience has proven to be a great source of inspiration for filmmakers. Watch some of these and be glad you are no longer in high school.
Six misfits who don't particularly like each other...stuck in detention together. Much hilarity ensues. This timeless '80s classic remains one of my fave high school films.
Definitely Lindsay Lohan's best work as an actress, Mean Girls is a modern classic about the awfulness of high school and teenage girls. Lohan stars as the new down-to-earth kid who quickly rises to popularity with a group of "mean girls" and becomes an even shallower version of them. Awesome characters and excellent writing makes this a modern classic.
Ahhh, Clueless, one of the most quotable films in cinematic history. This movie always brings me back to the '90s. It was so popular that it spawned the tv series; remember that?
Another '90s teen classic, this is a modern take of Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew and stars Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. Although it's not quite as quotable as Clueless, it's still got some pretty funny lines:
Chastity: I know you can be overwhelmed, and you can be underwhelmed, but can you ever just be whelmed?
Bianca: I think you can in Europe.
This 1973 film has a special place in my heart. It's about a group of just graduated high school friends spending one last night together before heading off to college. The film is funny, but what makes it special is that it captures all the bittersweetness of the high school experience so perfectly.
I just saw Mean Girls for the first time the other day. Wow, did that bring back memories of junior high! Excellent list of what high school is like. High 5
