Planeswalkers are either loved or loathed by Magic the Gathering players. The fact that they are new to the franchise and can fundamentally alter the way the game is played upsets some, but excites others. Think of them like creatures, but with more gusto: they have advanced super powerful abilities, and a unique set of rules applies to them.
Artifacts are used in Magic the Gathering decks of all kinds, whether the caster is using blue, black, red, white, green or any other combination of mana. Artifacts are cast with colorless mana which gives them a lot of flexibility. They can influence the match in different ways: pumping critters or destroying them, helping one draw, heal, damage, and so on.
In Magic The Gathering, instants take effect right away and then are sent to the graveyard (discard pile). They can accomplish a number of tasks.
The only type of card that didn't make this Magic the Gathering list is enchantments. That's not to say they aren't just as crucial as other types, but they just ended up being the odd one out. Certainly, many decks are based around enchantments.
