Raise them to know and love God and all of His creation. Show them the wonder in every day small things. Teach them that God is the creator of all things.
Children crave and need discipline. They may balk and rebel against your rules, but they will be stronger and better people for having had a firm and loving upbringing.
As age and maturity level permit, allow your children to make, or have a hand in making decisions. This will build their self-esteem and also the much needed decision making skills for the future.
As your children grow and mature, show them that you admire and trust them. Listen to their hopes and dreams for their own future. Help wherever possible and when help is needed and welcome.
The hardest part of being a parent is to know when to let go and then to actually let go! It is true, the old saying about holding them in your hand. If you hold them too tightly, they will be crushed, but if you hold them with an open palm, they will fly away but return again and again.
There are ever so many things we can do to leave a lasting legacy for our children. These are but a few.
