Introduction:I was thinking about how important gold is to mankind and how much the word "gold" shows up everywhere. Songs are no exception. Every song with the precious gem in it, has some kind of love meaning in it, or actually tells a story about gold.
This song was a top-selling single hit in the 70s and I think it impacted me a lot because it was about a wedding ring being the only thing left after a divorce. Freda Payne did this song justice when she sang it with all the emotion of the real deal.
The Gatlin Brothers, Larry Gatlin and his brothers, Steve and Rudy, turned this gold song into a classic number one hit in the 70s. The rich three-part harmony in this song made it smooth and a great song to sing along with.
Another huge hit song of the 70s was "Heart of Gold" by the prodigy Neil Young. This song is awesome because of the unique, acoustic style of Neil and his kicking harmonica solo in it.
I guess my generation had a lot of solid gold hit songs and this is another one. Sister Golden Hair was a mellow love song done by the band, America, and made its way to the top of the charts. The slide and beautiful 12 string acoustic guitar gave the song a similar sound of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord."
A jazzy Steely Dan song that also became a classic hit of the 70s. Your Gold Teeth has the timeless sound of Steely Dan with a funky keyboard solo followed by a smooth guitar solo.
These songs with gold in the titles, stayed true to themselves as gold hit songs of their era.
You offer a little bit of gold for every taste! Sister Golden Hair would be my favorite! Nice list!
You found some songs with gold nuggets in them! Enjoyed the memories. I was fortunate to see Larry Gatlin, up close and personal, when he perfored at a country western club in Dallas. So that would be my favorite of your 5. HI5 that is.
