These are on my bucket list!!!
The Lizzie Home is a Greek Revival House which has been a city landmark since the infamous ax murders of Andrew and his second wife Abby Borden on August 4, 1892. Erected in 1845 the home was originally a two family and was later made into a single family by Andrew J. Borden.
Andrew J. Borden bought the house at 92 Second Street to be close to his bank and various downtown businesses. The Bed & Breakfast is named after Andrew J. Borden's youngest daughter, Lizzie. Although she was tried and acquitted of the crimes she was shunned by the community of Fall River.
Since the murders on August 4, 1892 the house has been a private residence. Now for the first time the public is allowed not only to view the murder scene, but is given an opportunity to spend a night (if you dare) in the actual house where the murders took place.
The owners have felt similar presences at different times. The presence of the same man, same watchful feeling. A guiding spirit, they called him, Old Man Simon. He is the original owner of the 260-year-old home. Mrs. Brewster has also been felt. A watchful spirit in the house that may be heard walking up the stairs at night. The spirits here are of a comfortable kind, not scary.
Thayer's was built in 1895 by Gus and Caroline Thayer. Both Gus and Caroline still visit often. Gus has been know to leave pennies for the owners or staff to find. A number of other ghostly guests from the other side are reported to visit on a regular basis as well.
The house was built 100 years ago by a doctor. There's a blood stain under the tiles in a bathroom that was once part of his operating room and lab. It wouldn't sand out. At least one person has died in the house before it was turned into a inn. One religious couple who stayed in the inn prayed for an answer on whether evil lingered in the home. The answer came to them in a shared vision: Nothing but good energy fills this house. Guests are invited to share that good energy and try to connect with souls who have passed on.
When Holst opened the bed & breakfast in 1994, some guests remarked that they felt an "aberrant pressure". Or heard footsteps up and down the stairs. Or has recurring dreams of a certain woman with long dark hair wearing a floor-length gown. Even though Holst still finds this supernatural side of his bed & breakfast a curiosity, he does admit to a peculiar sound he ambiguously attributes to a ghost named Eve.
