Most people think their dog is smart, but how do they stack up among other breeds?
Border Collies are by far the most intelligent breed of dogs, but this alone comes with it's own set of challenges. Border Collies need a job to do, and a lot of exercise. They need consistent training and companionship. These dogs lead the way in agility and obedience.
The Standard Poodle is one of the most trainable dogs. They have been used for many jobs from guard dogs to hunting dogs. These dogs require regular grooming and do are not fans of being left alone.
The German Shepherd is one of the best guard dogs, but is probably most well know for being the dog of choice amongst police officers and the military. These dogs can be great family dogs if their trained at an early age.
This popular dog breed is also one of the most affectionate dogs. The Golden Retriever's patient, loyal, and loving nature makes them an ideal companion for any family.
Known for their assertiveness and dominance, the Doberman Pinscher rounds out our list at number 5. These dogs are not fearless guard dogs, but some can actually be very docile family pets, and even work as therapy dogs given proper training.
It should be noted that while all of these breeds are highly trainable and intelligent dogs, they will not train themselves. Training a dog requires patience, and consistency from an early age.
There are a lot of smart dogs out there, and these are some of them!
