It's fun to have house plants, but it's another story to maintain them and use their beneficial presence in your house. There are some things to consider before buying your plants: what kind do you prefer to have - tall, small, lots of leaves, more like small version tree what kind of maintenance would they require - are you willing to put in lots of time.
Placing your house plants in accessible spots in the house will make maintenance easy for you. Consider to give them enough day light and still allow yourself to enjoy the windows in the house.
Perform maintenance as needed, collect dead leaves and keep dirt fresh. Once a year replace the dirt or add as necessary. Water plants as needed.
Place a jag of water by each room; this will serve you as a good reminder to water them timely. Refill jags with water and place them by the plants to have them ready for the next round.
Buy the kind that requires watering a few times a week only and not every day care. Buy just a decent number of plants that you don't spend to much time on watering, etc..
Making a jungle in your it's not an option, it's not healthy.
In order to avoid pets to access your plants, you might want to either have them in rooms where pets do spend much time without you, or get them sprayed that pets wouldn't want to be around the plants to play with them too much.
Enjoy the indoor/house plants as much as the outdoor ones.
If your plants outgrow your place, consider donating them to your church or the library where they can develop freely and they will still be able to be cared for.
