This homemade gourmet coffee syrup is easy to make and tastes great on ice cream, cake, in Tiramisu and other desserts.
To make about three cups of coffee flavored syrup, you'll need a coffee grinder, enough gourmet coffee beans to make a cup of ground coffee, two cups each of sugar and boiling water, a 12-cup French press coffee maker, fine mesh strainer and glass pitcher with airtight lid.
Grind the gourmet coffee beans when you are ready to make the syrup, and pour into the French press coffee maker. Add sugar and fill with boiling water.
Stir the mixture thoroughly until the sugar dissolves and the coffee grounds settle at the bottom of the coffee maker. When the mixture becomes somewhat syrupy and aromatic, you will know that the coffee flavor has been released.
Do not cover the French press pot or put the plunger in place. Simply set the mixture aside to cool, stirring occasionally to continue to release the gourmet coffee flavor and set the syrup.
Insert the French press plunger until it is centered on the top of the pot. Push the plunger down to trap the coffee grounds at the bottom of the pot. Refrigerate until the gourmet coffee syrup is well chilled. Pour into a glass pitcher with air tight lid until ready for use.
