Many people move during the summer months, especially July. Here are some tips on moving.
Make sure you get proper boxes for storing your stuff. The boxes need to be sturdy enough. Be careful when packing dishes, don't pack too much in one box and use newspaper or other wrapping material for your dishes. Name your boxes properly and which room they go in.
Make sure you clean your apartment thoroughly and have the floors cleaned with a rented rug cleaner, or have them professionally cleaned. Give your apartment the once over and see if there are any damages and repair any damages, if any to walls or floors, etc. before you leave.
Advise your credit card companies, utility companies and phone companies that you are moving and give them your new address. Call to hook up your phone and cable, satellite ahead of time so that there's not a lapse when you get to your new home, or if there is a delay that it be a slight delay if you phone ahead and let them know you're moving. You can pay to have a proper change of address as well with your local post office, and they will redirect your mail for the next three months (in Canada).
If you have children, speak to them about the new place you're moving to. Go for a walk in the neighborhood before you move and try to familiarize yourself with the area with your children, that way it won't seem so strange to them. Help your child adjust to the transitioning phase of moving to a new home. Everyone will have to adjust to settle in to the new home and their new surroundings.
Clean your new place, wash the floors and wash the walls if you have time. Clean the bathroom thoroughly. After you move in, get some spare house keys for family members.
Ahhh...I need to do this soon. Good suggestions to get me started!
