Tying shoes can be easy for some kids and take a lot of effort to learn for others. Learn a few tricks a mother has learned about how to teach kids to tie shoes.
Before teaching a child how to tie their shoe, teach them left from right first. This will make any shoe tying method you use a lot easier for you to teach and for them to follow.
Go simple when trying to teach a young child to tie their shoes. There are many cute stories and rhymes available to teach your child to make shoe tying fun and simple. My boys liked the bunny ears shoe tie rhyme.
"Bunny ears, bunny ears, playing by a tree. Criss-crossed the tree, trying to catch me. Bunny ears, Bunny ears, jumped into the hole, popped out the other side beautiful and bold."
Sometimes it is easier to start tying a shoe on a cut out or empty shoe then it is when they have the shoe on. There is also shoe tying books on the market that has shoelaces attached to the from to teach a child to tie their own shoes.
I never used these with my boys, but I have heard many rave reviews. One of my boys friends learned how to tie shoes with a multi colored shore lace. One side of the shoe lace was one color and the other another color. This helped him learn without getting confused on what side of the shoelace he was working with.
It is so much easier in the beginning just to get shoes that do not require Velcro. A child will learn much faster if they have shoe laces that they will see learning the skill of tying their own shoes a something they want to learn to be independent.
