Just in case you like a variety of winter sports, the state of Oregon has a wide variety to choose from now until well into April. You will notice more than the five since they were all to important to omit so your list has a surprise amount of sports added to come and talk about forever.
Oregon has numerous groomed trails designated snowmobile routes. There are many organizations you can join to take advantage of club activities that go snowmobiling from Early November to well into April. The state also hires snowmobile personnel to keep back roads clear for travel. Winter sports in Oregon include out of state enthusiasts that don't have mountainous terrain for enjoying great snowmobiling and safe, great places to engage in it too. Mount Bailey is a complete mountain of un-groomed guided fun. Some of the snow resorts have added attractions such as sled dog rides for those looking for a very different adrenalin producing sport.
Three Sisters is a unique triple delight just knowing they are named; Faith, Hope and Charity giving skiers of near- by Mount Bachelor a special benefit. Timberline and Cooper Spur mountains are just two well maintained and popular down hill resorts inviting down hill skiing from late November all winter long. Half day and full day passes allow most snow lovers a choice to enjoy the powder for as short or long as they have to swish through the white stuff. Many resorts have full gear rentals for total slope fun for the whole family. There could also be instructors willing to get one ski in front of the other for the beginner.
Don't be shy about wanting to try snow boarding. Rent most equipment on the mountain site to see if this is the sport for you. Many people begin by working on the mild mountain dips before buying a snow board. After a few tries they know it is just the activity for them to invest time in learning the art of snow boarding and to buy equipment for many years of fun and frolicking in the snow. The young snow lovers accompany parents as snow tubing is also becoming a popular winter sport in Oregon's many mountainous areas particularly the ones without many trees.
For the true nature lover, snowshoeing is the greatest adventure in the sports world. Silently glide and step through several feet of new fallen snow where no one has traveled for a long time, if ever. Natural habitat accompany the snow shoe sports fans as they wallow in breathtakingly wonderful atmosphere. Second hand stores frequently have snow shoes ready for purchase for anyone wanting to try their skill at this old sport. Many wilderness visitors seek snowshoeing for the ultimate in seclusion yet being able to commune with nature. It is highly recommened to check avalanche reports before embarking on a snowshoeing trip.
With the correct equipment, a little childhood rehearsal of ice skating techniques, one is all set to totally spend quiet and maybe intimate time with the natural elements. Choose the manicured, groomed trails or trail blaze your own. Many ranchers will give you permission when they are asked if you can trespass for your cross county journey. Pack a back pack and make a date with winter wildlife and the drifting powder beckoning your presence. It is always suggested not to embark on a wilderness trip alone so bring a friend so you can both get a taste of Oregon winter sports.
