Unmanaged stress can lead to panic attacks, health problems, weight gain, and depression. These 5 tips can help you manage and reduce stress.
Stress is caused when you feel you lack control. In any situation, you can either control it, influence it or accept it for what it is. For instance, you can control your decisions, including your attitude or how you view the situations you find yourself in. You can influence people (but you cannot control them.) And you must simply accept things such as traffic, the weather, and the economy.
The present moment is all there is. Worrying about the future or regretting the past is simply wasted energy. Look at and focus on what you can do this very second to improve the stressful situation you find yourself in.
Stop and take a few deep breaths. Feel your tummy expand as fresh air fills your lungs. More oxygen to your brain and body will calm you down and help you to relax.
Simply saying or writing affirmations such as "I can handle this," "This too shall pass," or "One step at a time," can help you realize inner strength you did not know you had. Saying these in front of a mirror can be very powerful.
If you have too much on your plate, it is ok to say "No" to additional requests. It is important you make time for yourself to recharge.
What are some of the other ways you manage stress in your life?
Everyone needs to go by this list whether they realize it or not!
Acceptance, a la the "serenity Prayer" is most important. Nice list.
Saying "no" is the hardest of all the steps to do; but you're right it is a powerful way to reduce stress. H5
