You might find hairless dogs creepy or cute, but here are some things you should know about hairless dogs.
Some hairless dogs are the result of being a particular breed, but some hairless dogs are unhealthy, suffering from mange (which is a mite, or other health problems. Spotty areas of hairlessness can be a sign of cushings disease or ringworm.
The most popular hairless dog breed is the Chinese Crested although it is not really "hairless". Chinese Crested dogs have some hair on their head, tails, and lower legs.
Other hairless breeds include the Mexican Hairless, and the Peruvian Hairless.
Each hairless breed has a "hairy" counterpart, for example there is a hairless Chinese Crested and a Powderpuff Chinese Crested dog.
Because they have no hair, or fur, to take the oils away from their skin they tend to feel greasy after a while and can even get skin infections if not washed regularly, so they should be bathed more often than a furry dog.
Even what we think of as "room temperature" might be too cold for these hairless dogs. Imagine would you feel comfortable sitting around on your floor naked?
Hmmm... Never mind - the point is your dog needs a sweater!
You never seem to see a sunburn as it forms until it is too late. A dog with a sunburn is going to be very uncomfortable. Sun screen can block their pores so should be used only lightly otherwise it is best not to walk the dog too long in the direct sun.
