Wolf-dog mixes are not for everyone, and in fact most people should not have one as a pet. There are a number of things to remember when raising wolf mixes.
Like all other animals wolf-dog mixes feel pain, hunger, joy, and anger. Wolf-dog mixes should not be treated less than companions. They are not pets and need respect.
Most wolf-dog mixes still feel the need to be in a pack. This pack can be made of other canines or a mix of humans and canines. The wolf mix who has a loving pack is more likely to be a loving animal.
No animal should be abused. With that said, wolf mixes react very badly to the normal training/punishment of animals. It is important that the human displays their alpha status in a non violent way.
With my wolf mixes I've noticed one large thing that many people take for granted. When treated well they become very protective of other members of their pack. This includes humans and other animals.
Wolf mixes tend to mature slower than other canines. Somewhere between 18 months and 2 years they may change drastically. This could be a complete 180 degree change. A peaceful wolf mix could turn wild. There is no real defense against this. Everyone who has a wolf mix should be prepared to handle this in case it happens.
While they can be a handful, wolf mixes can be some of the most loyal friends anyone could have. Treat them with respect and research their breed well before attempting to take care of one.
