One of the greatest things about summer is having a barbeque and grilling a nice dinner outside. It is not only enjoyable to be outdoors, it keeps the kitchen cool. There are some important grilling safety tips to keep in mind.
One of the most important grilling safety tips is proper placement of a grill. Grills should always be used outside and never in a garage, carport, breezeway or by tree branches. It is advised that the unit should be at least 10 feet away from a home or building.
There should be rules around a grill. If children and pets are around, they should not be allowed to come within 3 feet of the grill. This is considered the safe zone. Make sure that no grilling is done by tree branches.
Another one of the most important grilling safety tips is to keep things clean. Remove any grease or buildup of fat from the surface of the grill. Remember to check the drip trays below and to empty them often.
Remember to keep any flammable liquids and objects away from a grill. This includes matches, lighted cigarettes and gasoline. If a fire starts, get it out immediately by keeping some water close at hand.
The last of the grilling safety tips is to never leave the grill unattended while it is in use. This is how many accidents occur. This means from start to finish. Do not walk away when you are done grilling. Keep an eye on the unit as it cools down.
Nice list, but I would prefer baking soda, closing the lid or fire extinguisher for fires. H5'd & Tw'd.
Thank you for this summer, grilling safety list. Good points!
