The Georgia Peach Festival, a week-long celebration in Fort Valley and Byron, Georgia, honors peach growers for their contribution to the state's economy and to the food industry nationwide. The festival features concerts, live entertainment, arts and crafts, music and dancing, fireworks, a parade, and, of course, peach ice cream. The main event on the festival's final Saturday is the world's largest peach cobbler, a mixture of 150 pounds of flower, 75 pounds of butter, 150 pounds of sugar, 32 gallons of milk, and 75 gallons of peaches. The Georgia Peach Festival will be held from June 3rd to June 11th.
The North Carolina Blueberry Festival, held in Town of Burgaw, celebrates the historic, economic and cultural significance of blueberries in the southeastern region of the state. It attracts more than 30,000 people to a town with a resident population of about 4,000. Festival events include a golf tournament, bake sale, car show, vendors, children's activities, live entertainment, food and award-winning barbeque, and the Tour de Blueberry, a non-competitive bike ride hosted by the Cape Fear Cyclists. The North Carolina Blueberry Festival will be held on June 18th.
Events during the Lebanon Strawberry Festival in Lebanon, Oregon include a country fair, entertainment, carnival, coronation, and two parades. The festival is the home of the world's largest shortcake, which is a cross between a sponge cake and a biscuit. The giant sweet treat, with whipped cream piled on top of up to 1,000 pounds of strawberries, feeds 15,000 hungry strawberry celebrants. The Rhubarb Festival is sponsored by the Lanesboro Farmers Market in Lanesboro, Minnesota. The festival features such events as the Rhubarb Olympics, a Rhubarb Rant Speakers Corner for those who want to speak about the rhubarb, the minute-to-win-it rhubarb and chopsticks competition, and a rhubarb pie-baking contest. Attendees can have their picture taken as Ray and Ruby Rhubarb, and they purchase rhubarb crafts at the craft fair. Winners of the tasting contest are determined by the popular vote of all who attend the festival. The Rhubarb Festival will be held on June 4th.
Held at the Newport Yachting Center in downtown Newport, Rhode Island, the Great Chowder Cook-Off is a legendary international competition that welcomes visitors and competitors from around the world. Attendees who purchase advanced tickets by May 31st are automatic members of the Chowdahead Club, which grants them early access to get first tastes of chowder creations, attend premiere events, and meet with the chefs and their teams. Prizes are awarded for best chowder in three divisions: clam, seafood, and creative. The Great Chowder Cook-Off will be held on June 4th.
