I rented a documentary yesterday called Grizzly Man. I thought there would be mostly footage of grizzly bears in the wild.
Its mainly about the man who lived among grizzly bears, in Alaska, for 13 summers.
This man lived dangerously close to the grizzly bears, tried touching them, was in the water near the bear. I think he was pretty delusional and apparently he thought that he was a bear.
He thought that he was protecting the grizzly bears. I'm sure he did do some awareness about the grizzly bears, and they shouldn't be poached, for e.g. for their claws, or gall bladders for example.
But the Katami National Park in Alaska where he camped, was a protected park for the grizzly bears.
He named the bears he videotaped, and befriended wild foxes and pups. The documentary is available on Youtube at the time I wrote this list.
It is not helping wildlife if you are invading in their territory, approaching them and making them familiar with you. It will just harm them, and people who do this can be harmed. One swipe of a grizzly paw and a person can be badly injured.
This man was irresponsible, delusional and foolish for thinking that he can befriend these wild, sometimes deadly animals, and he ultimately faced his own demise, as well as his girlfriend.
I think that he thought he had some control over the bears and that they were accustomed to him. He had a grandiosity about him on the footage, disobeyed park regulations and yelled and screamed obscenities at the BBC once when tried to film there, which would have brought the grizzlies to a worldwide audience.
I don't know how he thought he was protecting the bears. Hopefully, other people won't try to mimic his behaviour among wild animals and fierce as grizzly bears, which some have done, and it is very dangerous and foolish. People who attempt this are seeking a death wish.
