Since I live in Michigan this list is obviously going to be biased on what months are my favorites out of the year. There are a few Michigan months that I could do without, but we do have the four seasons and those months make it all worthwhile to live in the "Winter Wonderland" Michigan.
September in Michigan is my favorite month of the year. It's mostly perfect 70ish degree days with cooler 50 to 60ish nights. I love the warm, breezy September days and there are occasionally some real warm days in a Michigan September that get up to 90 degrees without the bad humidity. I can handle warm weather as long as the humidity stays away. It's a perfect mostly bug-free month to take vacations anywhere along the Great Lakes and the beautiful cities that border them. Some breath-taking cities to vacation in Michigan are: Tequamanon Falls State Park, Mackinaw City and Island, Traverse City, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Indian River and hundreds of other cities too numerous to mention. Northern Michigan is rightly referred to as "God's Country." Other outdoor September events like the newer Art Prize Festival in Grand Rapids, attracts thousands of people every year with spectacular exhibits from around the world.
May in Michigan is the beginning of new life everywhere you look. Spring is in the air and the colder April days are starting to warm up to the 50 to 60 degree days. Spring is in the air as you see Robins buzzing around making their nests after a winter in the south. The maple, magnolia, flowering crab apple and cherry , and all kinds of trees that I love are budding and blooming. Fragrant flowers are pushing up through the earth from their hibernation and everything sleeping is waking up. This is also the month to plant a garden and flowers, which I love to do. The most precious thing about May? My dear mother graduated home to heaven, so it is very special month to me.
July in Michigan is hopping with outdoor events everywhere, as Michigan is a hot spot for tourists with it's beautiful lakeside cities. Festivals, craft shows, weddings, outdoor cafes, car shows, concerts, county fairs, boating on the Great Lakes, food fairs and of course festive and decorative Fourth of July events are just a few of the things this social butterfly loves about July.
August in Michigan is another social biggie with attractions everywhere. It's hot and the lakes and beaches are warm and wonderful hang out places. Silver Lake has the best thrilling dunes that you can ride, and also watch the dune scooter races that take place daily on the sand drag strip. August is the annual Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven that literally attracts thousands of people, with a whole week of different events for all ages. My favorite thing about August is the fact that it stays light until about 9:45 P.M. That's a lot of daylight to fill up your day with things to do!
December is a nostalgic and wonderful month in Michigan. Frankenmuth in Northern Michigan has the biggest Christmas display at Bronner's Christmas store, a delight for thousands of visitors. Right next door is a giant water-park and hotel that families can spend a wonderful, festive weekend at. The first snow in December is beautiful and fluffy, making it a perfect holiday setting along with an attraction for skiers. Michigan also has some awesome ski resorts that make December a fun month for winter sports fans.
Michigan is a wonderful place in all of the months of the year, but these are my favorites. I would not trade living in Michigan for anything, but I could easily become a snow-bird from January through March and fly south. :)
Nice ways to enjoy Michigan throughout the year!
I would have to say anywhere between May and October would be my favorite. I'm more a warm weather type person. Great list.
