A recent list hit my email inbox and the top five senior citizen texting and Twitter tweeting codes was a must do for a List My Five article (thanks, Linda!). Now, I personally would never let my 94 year old momma very senior citizen, Gertie, loose on a computer without monitoring, but, if there's a senior citizen or elderly person in your life, these senior texting and Twitter tweeting codes may save them time when sending online messages.
LOL or LMDO (Laughing My Dentures Out)!
Let's set the scene: It's dinner time (4 pm for most seniors) and you've been tweeting to Grandma on Twitter. All of a sudden, your tweets go unanswered. Uh oh, you think. Escalating panic ensues as your tweets go unanswered for a half hour. Crying, you call Grandma's neighbor (who is herself a senior citizen) to run next door and check on her - certainly, there must be a crisis.
A few minutes later, your computer screen lights up with AF, LWO. WHAT? What the heck does that mean? 'All fine. Lawrence Welk's On.'
It's not just for drunks anymore. DWI takes on a whole new sense as we age and our bodies show us their sick sense of humor. DWI? Driving While Incontinent....
If you've ever seen the commercials about the LifeAlert button suggested to aid senior citizens if they need help, you should learn to recognize this twitter shorthand.
Most of us recognize ROFL means Rolling On Floor Laughing but ROF-CGU? WTH does that mean? Well, silly person, it means Rolling On Floor - Can't Get Up. Thankfully, the computer must have crashed to the floor when your senior friend took their tumble so they could at least get this internet shorthand message tweeted.
These tweets may come at separate times and are meant to keep you updated on your senior citizen friend's status. GGPBL? Gotta Go, Pacemaker Battery Low. ATD? At The Doctor's. CBM? Covered By Medicare.
If you're a caregiver and at your work desk, you might see WTP come across your Twitter account. Your senior citizen friend is giving you a heads up that they've been Sitting On The Toilet Forever....Where's The Prunes?
After you answer, you can expect a follow up tweet - Had A Good Bowel Movement.
Ah, life is good.
The elderly are quite amusing in their own right but no more so than when I first showed my elderly Dad a computer mouse. He held it up to the monitor and tried to move it around. We both rolled when I explained how to properly use the mouse. Dad actually became a pretty good computer whiz at the ripe old age of 82 or so.
Funny. I have to admit I try not to use many short cuts cause sometime I have no clue what the other person is saying.
Lol. Great job on this hilarious list of 5. Thanks for the laugh. I needed this.
