In order for your blog to be a success, it's got to be timely and well written and it has to be worth your visitors' time to read. You can promote your blog all that you want, but to get visitors to come and stay, you need to have a fresh take on subjects and your posts need to be high quality.
Find other established blogs that cater to the type of audience that you are trying to attract and offer a guest post to the owner, free of charge. Many blog owners are hungry for well written content and will allow you at least one link back to your blog in the post or bio.
If your guest post is well written a large portion of the readers may click through to your blog and you could substantially increase your own traffic.
Facebook and Twitter offer plenty of opportunity to drive relevant traffic to your blog. It's not the best idea to over-promote your blog via your social networking accounts, but a simple update containing links to new posts can drive plenty of readers to your blog.
Having another talented writer put together a guest post for you can help your blog traffic the same way that writing a guest post for a popular blog can. Ask for posts from blog owners who cover a similar style topic and they will likely promote the post on their blog and via their social networking accounts, which will drive even more traffic to your blog.
Finding popular blogs that have similar subject matter and leaving thought provoking comments on relevant posts can drive plenty of traffic to your blog. If you make your presence felt in your niche and establish yourself as someone with an interesting point of view there is a good chance that readers of other blogs will click through to yours via your comment to see what you've got to offer.
All great points!
