Heartburn is the unhappy ending to a great meal. Get rid of the uncomfortable pressure and pain of heartburn with these five easy heartburn cures.
Keep peppermint or spearmint gum handy for those times when heartburn attacks. Pop a couple pieces in your mouth and chew away. Believe it or not, when you chew the gum, you force air into your stomach, which causes you to burp, relieving the heartburn pressure.
Drink a small cup of milk, about 6 to 8 ounces, to relieve the burning sensation heartburn inflicts. The milk also coats the stomach and helps neutralize the gastric acid, which causes the heartburn in the first place.
Avoid soda pop or other beverages during the meal and cleanse the palette with a tall drink of cool water. This not only helps your body digest the food but keeps the acid from building up to the point of irritation.
Mix a tablespoon of baking soda in 6 ounces of water and drink it quickly. The taste is not as bad as the pain of heartburn. This remedy quickly puts an end to the pain and burning. Baking soda also gets rid of the bloated feeling, which is great after a big meal.
If you must use an over-the-counter remedy, try one that is low in sodium and provides extra calcium. Only use the store remedies when nothing else is available.
