As much as we love and our kids love to try out new hair styles and crazy colors the first day back at school is not the time to experiment.
Check school policy before giving in to those constant whines. Sending your child to school without checking school policy is a bad move and can set your child up with an unwarranted reputation.
Also, kids often change their minds after that first day when they realize all their friends think they look stupid. So be vigilant and say no for now. Later you both may change your minds when you know more about the new school year.
So your daughter really wants that pair of toe pinching boots, maybe you should say no at this time. Nothing ruins an all ready stressful day quicker than a painful pair of footwear.
Kids want to be cool so have them be cool in the appropriate footwear. Sneakers are almost always acceptable for school. Before investing in that pricey pair of neon bling check school policy.
Just as many employers have policies on appropriate footwear so do many schools. Trust me the policies set by the school are not designed to cause your child grief. There really are good reasons for these policies.
Sure your child may need a scientific calculator but wait on making that purchase till you know. Sending your child off loaded down with all the latest gadgets could just backfire making your child miserable.
First, they shouldn't take anymore supplies to school than needed. Second, little Johnny may want to show off his new one of kind 'toy' - at the wrong time of course. You'll certainly get a note home if your child is waving around a bunch of useless gadgets instead being able to find what he needs.
Honestly unless your child is in high school with after school responsibilities or walks home there is no need for a child to have a cell phone at school.
Last I checked every school had phones and they even let the kids use them.
On the other hand your child really needs to understand that the cell phone is not to be used during school hours except in the case of an emergency. Otherwise they may lose it to a grumpy teacher.
The kids stayed up late all summer doing what kids do. Now it's time to set the alarm and get back on schedule. Start sending them to bed early so they will not have such a hard time sleeping the night before the big day.
Your child may not understand the importance of a first impression but you certainly should. Don't be afraid to set boundaries, this is what your child expects from you as the parent. Of course as they get older they may challenge you so lighten up if you have older kids. They'll learn.
Hope those red streaks that were supposed to wash out of my daughter's hair do so in time. lol...I agree with all of these!
I did not know #4 was the rule. It sure is a great one too.
Great helpful list all parents should read and think carefully about. H5, and yes oh that crazy hair lol
This list is so true. I would often have my children wait to get some of their back to school clothes after they went back to see what the latest trends were.
