Many elementary school children celebrate St. Patrick's Day with a classroom party. A St. Patrick's Day gift for the teacher is definitely not a requirement. However, if your child's teacher has given small gifts to your child at each holiday party, you may want to give her a small token for St. Patrick's Day.
Your child can easily make a St. Patrick's Day themed bookmark for his teacher. Simply cut the shape of a bookmark from green card stock paper. Decorate one side with shamrock stickers. Write Happy St. Patrick's Day and have your child sign his name on the other side. Help your child attach a ribbon to the top of the bookmark.
If you are making Irish soda bread, bake an extra one to send to school for the teacher. For something sweet, bake your child's teacher a batch of shamrock cookies (your favorite cut out cookies made with a shamrock cookie cutter). Marshmallow cereal treats can also be turned into shamrocks using the cookie cutter. Saint Patrick's Day themed cupcakes are another sweet treat for the teacher. Wrap the baked goods of choice in green cellophane and tie with green ribbon. Attach a gift tag that has been signed by your child.
A simple card created by your child is enough to wish the teacher a happy St. Patrick's Day. Construction paper and crayons are all the supplies you will need to create this greeting, but you may also provide craft store embellishments with which to decorate. Help your child write an Irish blessing and sign her name on the card. (See links for Irish blessing ideas)
Teachers can always use pencils for the classroom. Pick up a package or two of St. Patrick's Day themed pencils from the dollar store. If you can find them, also purchase shamrock shaped erasers. Top each pencil with a shamrock eraser. Bunch a dozen of these pencils together and tie them into a bouquet, with the shamrock erasers on top.
Many teachers have a limited supply of books for the classroom. Choose a St. Patrick's Day book that she can add to the class library. Often you can find upcoming holiday selections available through Scholastic books for as little as one or two dollars.
