Not every no has to be as harsh as the two letter word is. When you want to say no gently consider saying, "I don't think so". Wait and make sure the person realizes you mean no. If need be, repeat "I don't think so" as often as needed. The more forceful your tone of voice is; the less frequent you will be saying this again.
Shaking your head back and forth will give the "no" in a very silent way. Without even uttering a sound, your "no" will be known. One shake or more will be your choice. You may put your head from one side to another slowly or quickly and see which is more to your liking and the person you are saying no to.
Some individuals like to have a specific word spelled out for them. N O is easily spelled and most people will understand you mean no when you state the letter "N" and quickly follow it with the letter "O".You may say those letters more than once, but if you do make sure you leave a gap between them.
If you speak a foreign language use it when you want to tell someone no. If you are not certain about how to pronounce the foreign word look it up or ask someone to check your accuracy. This is not a time to say something other than a no, so make sure you know what you are saying.
You will leave no doubt when you say no in this way. Look directly at the person and say "Not a chance". These words do not have to be said in a nasty tone of voice, but using a firm one will get the message across without a doubt. If the person does not believe you after the "not a chance" is said, just be silent and keep looking at them until they get the strong "No" message.
Definately one of those things that people need to consider. Sometimes the situation dictates the course of action and sometimes people don't realize the position they are putting you in...and sometimes, it's the same person over and over and over again! This certainly helpful for those who have trouble saying no. If saying "yes" steals my joy, I really have to stop and think for a minute.
Great ways to say no, which many people have a hard time doing.
