Many of us sit in a room at a computer for many hours a day, writing or doing online work. The monotony of it can become overwhelming at times and you just have to get up and take breaks to give your mind, eyes and body a rest from it all. There are ways to customize your computer work area for a more pleasant and relaxing work experience. I will share some ways how you can do that.
Do you have piles of papers and documents scattered everywhere and have to spend 25 minutes looking for something? That is a stresser and it can be avoided by taking some time each week to clean up you desk or work area.
File, file and more files is the answer for organized workspace. Now if you haven't done it or have let it slide for a long time, you will need to take a day just for that and file things according to work or personal subjects. Don't mix the two as you will take more time looking for stuff that way. Find a system that works for you and have a home for everything.
The same principle applies for your computer stuff. Keep your pictures categorized for what they are used for and don't mix business with personal anything. You can put everything in a folder that is labeled and even use sub-folders to break it down further, for easy finds.
The top of your desk can get pretty messy and dusty in a short time. Don't let it go so long that you dread looking at it. Take an hour each week to take every thing off and wash and dust everything that can be. Keyboard cleaners, monitor cleaners and other types of cleaners exist for safe cleaning.
Desk top organizers are easy to find in second-hand stores and garage sales. You will feel much better working in a clean, organized area.
An uncomfortable work chair is a pain in the "you know what" and does not make for a pleasant work day at the computer. You can find good deals on computer chairs on Craig's List or consignment stores if money is an issue.
A personalized work area makes it feel like home and will motivate you to keep it looking nice. Buy classy looking letter holders and shelves to give your work space a good look. Put a nice plant close by or on the corner of your desk, with a full-spectrum light that will help the plant and your eyes stay healthy. A fish aquarium or waterfall nearby can sooth and give you something to look at for a soothing time-out for your eyes.
Create a work area that you look forward to being in to help your overall health.

Good advice. It sure is nice when things are organized around you. H5.
Groan, I'm so guilty of the clutter ... you should see my desk right this minute! On second thought, I'm glad you cannot. Great ideas, though, h5!
