Each of these movies is disturbing in its own special way. If you are the scary type and alone at night, you might be better off watching something else. On the other hand, if you like chills running up and down your spine, rent one of these and make a bowl of popcorn. "Psycho" was purposely left off this list because it is named so often in scary movie lists.
Clint Eastwood directed and starred in this psychological thriller. Though the title refers to an Erroll Garner song, Roberta Flack's hit from the sound track is the one that people remember and associate with the film. Jessica Walter co-starred. This is one of those scary movies that sneaks up on you before you realize what's going on.
Hard to watch at times and full of gut-wrenching surprises, this really scary movie is a graphic argument for marital fidelity starring Michael Douglas and Glenn Close. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture of 1987.
Katharine Ross and James Caan costar as wealthy Manhattan art collectors with a penchant for mind games and misadventures. Simone Signoret and Don Stroud are excellent in their supporting roles. A very strange, very scary movie.
Audrey Hepburn as "the World's Champion Blind Lady" is a joy to watch. Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna are at their creepiest. Versatile Jack Weston is superb as a sleazy thug playing out of his league. One of the scariest movies ever!
Stephen King wrote the novel of the same name. That should tell you something. Stanley Kubrick directed this exploration of psychic phenomena and evil doings in a resort hotel closed for the winter. Shelley Duval is outstanding in her portrayal of the annoyingly ineffectual mother. A very scary movie.
The Shining is one of my top favorite films ever! And I love Wait Until Dark.
I have only seen two of these. I'll have to check out the rest!
I've seen all these movies and couldn't agree with you more. I love a scary movie more than anything. Great list!
Thank you for the scary list of movies. h5
