Introduction:

It has taken me a while to compose these unusual words, since they are not used everyday. Some of these you won't come across,but once in a lifetime because they are so unusual.Then there will be others you recognize yet don't hear them being used because they are a little obscure.

Chasm

You could be driving down an unfamiliar highway and see this word "chasm" on the side of the road. If you have, like I did, you will learn from this #1 unusual word what that means.It is not a sign you frequently see along side the road, so it sure does catch the eye when it is posted. It means a steep sided opening in the earth's surface; an abyss or gorge according to the http://www.thefreedictionary.com The definition goes on to explain it might mean a sudden interruption of continuity; a gap. There are more definitions, however none associated with a road side sign to mention here.

Disseminate

The unusual word disseminate means to spread or dispurse. It is a verb used to describe many things of which I will mention some. A person can disseminate information and therefore spread the word. Blood is dispursed throughout the body and is said to be disseminated. Other words to describe disseminate are: distribute, broadcast,share, scatter, spread, propagate or diffuse. The online dictionary was used for the definition, so your hard copy might be slightly different from these.

Prehensible

This is an adjective that might be fairly new even though the reprehensible is a word that is more commonly used. Prehensible means to be able to be seized or grasped. It is a latin derivitive from the word prehension which means "a taking hold". Another dictionary defines this as being able or capable of being seized or to be seized.

Squash

Think of how many times you actually used the word squash. It is a verb and also a noun. When it is used as a noun it is referring to the vegetable grown in the dirt. It can be yellow, green, brown or orange in color. When it is used as a verb it is to plaster to a flat surface or reduce to mush. Squash is so infrequently used, that it is sometimes requested to repeat it when it is mentioned.

Responsibility

The word responsibility is not so much an unusual word, but one that usually is put aside. Some people do not want to take responsibility for their wrong doings until they get caught. Tiger Woods, Weiner, Bill Clinton,the ex governor of California and many others might come to your mind when taking responsibility comes to the forefront.Personal responsibility is for the individual to take charge of, on their own.




Final Thoughts

Fads sometimes take over a generation and the usual words get stored and then become obsolete.Hopefully some words will have more meaning and be honored more in the years to come.
