The average American drinks nearly 45 gallons of soda a year. Drinking soda is not a smart choice and here are 5 good reasons why you should consider giving it up.
If you are drinking soda, chances are very good that you could stand to lose a few pounds (or more). With a huge percentage of the population being overweight, a lot of the obesity rates can be traced to the consumption of soda. Don't believe it? Swear off soda for a few weeks and substitute it with bottled water and watch your weight drop off.
Soda contains sugars that will not only rot your teeth but destroy your bones. There is a much higher incidence of osteoporosis in soda drinkers than in non-soda drinkers. As you age your bone health becomes even more important. Many soda drinkers chose soda over milk and that is part of the problem.
What is BVO? BVO is brominated vegetable oil which is actually a toxic flame retardant that is added to sodas to keep the artifical flavor from seperating from the rest of the liquid. Too much bromide causes nerve damage, skin lesions and memory loss.
What do you think artificial flavors and colors are made of? CHEMICALS of course! Have you ever considered what consumption of these chemicals do to your body long-term? Brain damage is just one of the risks of consuming these additives.
High fructose corn syrup that is genetically engineered is one of the ingredients in soda. Let's stop and think about this. Genetically engineered food products have recently been studied and the first findings are that they can cause infertility, increased aging and digestive tract problems. Long-term studies are not even complete. Isn't this enough reason to forego that bottle of Coke?
Personally I think twice about what I put into my body. Products that are so far removed from nature scare me. Soda doesn't do anything good nutritionally for your body so why consume it?
Nice list. I hardly ever drink sodas anymore, but it was a very hard habit to break. Now if I could only give up coffee!
I have cut back on soda, and have no other bad food habits. Time to kick this one.
My only food vice, but one I should give up. Thanks for one additional prod that direction.
Wonderful list. I have cut back on my soda due to cost. I find I get a headache until I get a soda, so it something I have to work my self down from.
I would gladly give up soda for milk.. but milk is so darn expensive too. LOL
Priscilla: It makes my heart sing to see you're writing again and on the front page too! I learned from your list, which is always exciting to me. Never heard of BVO! HI5
OK. This gives me even more reason to drink water and tea instead.
