These facts might scare or alarm you into changing your diet.
Real free range hens have natural diets, their yolks are a deep dark yellow. Battery hen, and factory farm "free range" hens are not given natural diets, instead yellow dye is added to their food to make their yolks yellow, but even still they are not as yellow as a real free range hen's egg.
Yellow dye is used in many foods, drinks, and candies. One yellow dye has been linked to causing behavioral problems in kids - hyper activity mostly. This is also a problem for some pets. Watch out for Tartrazine, Yellow 5, Cl 19140, or E102.
Red is also a problem. It has the same affects on behavior as does yellow. Look out for Allura Red, Red 40, food red 17, Cl 16035, or E 129.
It's tomatoes, so it should be healthy right? Well for starters you know it has red dye, but additionally ketchup is very high in sugar. Ketchup is roughly 1/3 sugar, although it may be listed as fructose on the ingredient list.
As populations rise farmers are forced to grow more food, on less land, in less time, for less cost. What is happening to nutrition? It is falling.
Consumers are not demanding healthy food, they want "pretty" food. Look at strawberries, they look beautiful in the store, but have no taste, and very little nutrition, compared to the ones you grow at home.
I knew all of this except the ketchup having dye. I buy organic ketchup and sometimes my daughter makes her own and gives me some! I agree that our food is really suffering from greedy producers.
