As a public relations practitioner it is wise to follow certain steps to divert negative press away from companies. It is also important to provide positive press that sheds light on the company your hired by. These are a few steps to remember when dealing with a crisis.
Gather information by doing research and focus your plan on the particular crisis. Make sure you can handle such a crisis because there might be some one out there who can.
This job is based on credibility and if you put out to the media false information, it can be damaging to your reputation. All ways be truthful, it will guide your career a long ways.
This is criticle because you want to keep a good image about your firm and a person that can answer the media and give them what they want, is good. You never want the media to go some where else to anwser questions about who you are trying to protect.
Maintain confidence in front of the media! make sure you show the ability to resolve the crisis. This may gain more high profile work for you in the future and could be a plus for your career.
Be swift in what you do as a PRP. Acting fast can only help the problem go away quicker. You want to be able to control the media with what you give to the public. The main thing is creating a positive perspective with a company that has gone through a major crisis. The public may soon forget about what happened.
