These were the marbles that were part of the game of marbles that was played for fun in the early 1950's. Take a trip down memory lane with this marble list.
Pure marbles are called puries simply because they do not have designs inside them. The pure colors can be white, black, pink, yellow or blue. Some other colors might be valid puries too, without mention of them here. The author was less than 10 years old when these marbles were in her possession.Puries were able to be bought in a bag all by themselves with two different sizes mixed in that one bag. A little over a 1/4 inch was the smallest size purie.
The cats eyes came in assorted colors. The cats eye inside the pure marble designated the color of the marble. There were assorted colors of blue, red, orange, yellow and white for the cats eyes.
Jumbo marbles were super players. The diameter of the jumbo can be as large as almost one inch. The jumbo marbles can be pure in color or cats eye. They were status cymbals since they were too large to use for shooting.
The aggie was the marble a player viewed to hit during the game of marbles. This was the opponents marble of any size and any color. A marble player chose the aggie they thought they could hit. As soon as the aggie was hit, it became the possession of the marble player that hit it.
Shooters were the marbles that a player chose to shot with in the game of marbles. Most often times the Jumbo was not the shooters choice because of the larger size of the marble. Shooters were most often puries and cats eyes.
Such a great list!
I used to love to shoot marbles! Ahh, memories!
Nice list!
When I owned an antique shop, the number 1 request was for authentic marbles. Know what? I never heard of "puries". Thanks for all the good information. HI5
