A few days ago, I lost a dear friend. I want to honor her memory and thought I'd share a few of the ways I'm doing it in case someone else is looking for ways to honor a loved one who has died.
One of the best ways to honor someone who has passed on is to celebrate his or her life. Tell others a story about how special that person is. Sharing those stories helps you feel a little bright spot in the middle of your grief.
When my grandfather died, I wrote a poem and a short story about fishing with him on the Chesapeake Bay. Using your creativity makes you feel better and the thing you create is a lasting memorial to your loved one. Is you can't write, try making a collage, a wooden plaque or a photo that has something to do with your loved one.
Perhaps your friend loved to feed wild birds. Maybe your mother volunteered at the local mission. Whatever it is that your loved one used to really have a passion for, why not take it up to honor that person?
In the midst of your grief, don't forget the other people who are missing your loved one, too. Pray for God to strengthen them and I bet you'll feel strengthened, too.
Whether you donate a small amount of money to a place like ChildFund International or you have the funds to start a foundation to help people in need, the important thing is that you are giving someone a chance to have a better life. Maybe that person will grow up to cure cancer or do something else equally life changing.
While you are honoring the memory of your loved one, you're also going to feel sad and angry. That's okay. You are allowed to grieve. You are allowed to miss him or her. And if you feel like you are having trouble dealing with your grief, please talk to your doctor about seeing a grief counselor. They are trained to help people through the grieving process.
Returning with another read and h5 too.
