When dialing 911 for an emergency, you need to be prepared. I know that you will be stressed out but if you can't get the right information to them they can't help you.
You need to know where you are at needing help. If you use a cell phone, they will not have an address. If you have an accident, figure out cross streets or a nearby business. Give them enough information that they can find you.
If you are calling because someone else asked you to, find out if they need an ambulance, fire, or police. Most 911 call centers answer all of these calls and will need to get the right help to you.
If this is a wreck or a fight, they need to know if anyone has injuries. This will help them decide who to send out to help you.
If you are calling about a fire, they will want to know if people are still in the home. This will help them decide how to handle the call.
If a vehicle is involved, such as a shooting or hit and run accident, they need a tag number. Without this information, it will be hard for them to track down the car or the driver.
