With todays hustle and bustle so many people are in a hurry to get out the door before they get a chance to finish getting ready. Speeds are faster than they used to be so we need to be sure that we are completely focused on our surroundings outside our car. Try to remember what it was like before cell phones ever came out. Try to stay off the phone and try to wait and hold off with all the other distractions that you tend to want to do while you are in the car and driving.
So many people talk on the phone while they are driving. This is dangerous since you are taking your concentration away from the traffic and your driving and putting your concentration on your conversation. I know, I do it as well and I find myself either speeding or going quite a bit slower than I normally would when I am on the phone. You lose your concentration. Be safe and wait until you are at home or parked to talk on the phone.
Studies show that texting while driving causes more accidents. People who are texting are looking at their phones to text rather than what is ahead of you or behind you or even what is next to you. Accidents happen so quickly. Drivers are always in a hurry and move so quickly to change lanes or they may need to stop quickly for something or someone. If you are texting, you may miss all of this. Please don't text while you are driving. You may save your life or someone else's life if you wait until you are parked.
There are so many women out there who decide that putting their makeup on in the car on the way to work or somewhere else is the perfect time to put their makeup on. They are busy looking in the mirror while they put on their eye shadow or lipstick and completely missing everything that is going on around them. Try getting up a little earlier so you have time to put your makeup on at home or wait until you get where you are going and put your makeup on after you are parked.
I have seen men shaving lately on the way to work. Sure they don't need the mirror like women do when they put on their makeup but shaving is still a distraction and they do look in the mirror once in a while to make sure they haven't missed anything. Try shaving before you leave home or when you arrive at your destination.
Reading the newspaper has been something I have seen drivers doing. I have also seen people looking at their notes for work while driving. Any kind of reading while driving (other than the stop signs and other traffic signs)is a distraction. Your eyes should be on the road and not on a piece of paper.
Hold off reading, texting, talking on the phone, adjusting the radio and any other distraction until you are completely stopped. You never know what might happen in the next split second while you are being distracted with something that you shouldn't be doing while driving. Keep yourself and others on the road safe and wait to do these other distractions when you get to where you are going and completely stopped and parked.
